questionnaire results
From my results i have found that student prefer the name student buzz as the title and the lay out to be bold and eye catching. Also the top 3 results in the content question were, music/book/movie reviews events around the area and college news. the price will also be free. for the colour scheme i have found that students want bright bold colours. also a result that surprised me is that the students would prefer proper grammar over the use of slang. also students would prefer pictures of students around college.

textual analysis front cover and contents page- IMPACT
Textual analysis- impact
The masthead for this is ‘impact’ is in bold capital
letters. The colour of the masthead is the same as the rest of the writing on
the magazine front cover. The masthead for the contents page is ‘issue 212’.
The name ‘iMPACT’ connotes that it is a magazine that has a lot of
impact on students.
There isn’t a central image, but the background is of
university students as cartoon people all the same all black, apart from one
that is white. This shows who the magazine is aimed at. This makes the magazine
look simply laid out but effective.
The contents page has an interesting way of displaying the
content of the magazine it almost looks like a leaf or a tree, which is
interesting and different. On the other side it has the editors photo and his
editorial. The colours aren’t bold the main colours are white and yellow.
There isn’t a puff on this magazine.

Research codes and conventions of student magazines
The masthead is “247”, the font of the masthead makes it
stand out from the rest of the magazine’s front cover. It all joins together,
which makes distinguished as its own brand. The name “247” connotes that it’s a
24/7 magazine. The visual style is very modern and new, the 2, 4 and 7 all join
together.
The central image on the front cover is of two men sitting
on some stairs, they looks very laid back, which could be used to invite you
into the magazine. On the front cover
the central image is of a piece of art work, this could be seen as inviting as
it shows that they promote pieces of art work, another little image on the
contents page is of the editor of the magazine.
The puff for the front cover of this magazine is in the top
left hand corner, but it is quite small. It says in capital letters in an
almost dog tag type border that is FREE.
The colour scheme for the front cover and contents page
seems to be in quite boyish colours “blacks and green” but this doesn’t mean
that this couldn’t appeal to girl audiences as well.
textual analysis of a student magazine front cover
Textual analysis of a magazine cover
I have chosen to evaluate and analyse the popular magazine
Company that is aimed at 16- 20+ year olds. By analysing this magazine it will
give me some ideas as to what my magazine needs to have on the front cover.
The masthead is the name of the brand of magazine; the
masthead is used to distinguish the brand from another. The font of the
masthead is the same throughout every monthly issue of the magazine though the
colour changes in almost every monthly issue.
The central image is obstructing some of the masthead, this shows that
consumers can recognise a brand by the font of the masthead without looking at
the name.
The price is in a black bubble with white bold writing, this
makes the price stand out and connotes that it is good value for money. It also
uses the buzz word ‘only’ to try and entice the consumer that it isn’t that
much money and good value, a lot of women’s magazines are over £2 and quite
expensive.
Magazines usually have a main image, commonly of a
well-known celebrity such as Fearne Cotton. The image is central and has a direct mode of address. Her body
language and facial expression could connote that she’s inviting the
reader/buyer into the magazine.
The colour scheme is almost appropriate for the time of year
‘November’ the magazine has soft colours and cold colours. The colours aren’t
in your face and bold.
The font is all in capital letters, this makes the words
stand out and connote a sense of importance. There is another story going at a slant across
the central image that isn’t in capitals but is bigger than the other text and
it seems to be written in a different font, its an almost crayon effect.
